BIER Members Define World Class Water Stewardship in the Beverage Industry

BIER members recognize that preserving and increasing access to fresh water systems is imperative to the long-term health, growth and vitality of our communities and businesses around the globe.

The issue is particularly acute to the beverage sector due to reliance on water to grow agricultural ingredients and to serve as a direct ingredient. Further, beverage companies are in a unique position to catalyze global water stewardship by influencing the actions of their stakeholders, which include suppliers, customers, consumers and communities worldwide.

To define the elements exhibited by leading water stewards, the members of BIER have collaborated to define World Class Water Stewardship in the Beverage Industry 2010. Defining this framework was an early activity of BIER in August 2006. After four years of advancing BIER's water stewardship agenda, its members have refreshed this definition to represent the evolution of industry practices and heightened expectations by a variety of stakeholders.
