The Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) is entering a new chapter. After a distinguished career, Daniel Pierce is retiring from Antea Group and his role as Executive Director of BIER. We are excited to announce that Erica Pann will become BIER’s Executive Director on October 1, 2024.

A Tribute to Daniel Pierce

Daniel has served as BIER’s Executive Director for the past three years with exceptional dedication and leadership. During his tenure, Daniel has led BIER’s Steering Committee and working groups focused on water, climate, reporting and disclosure, and the Charco Bendito project. Under his leadership, BIER has produced significant publications, including the Water Circularity Playbook, the True Cost of Water Toolkit 3.0, the 2023 Water and Energy Use Benchmarking Study, Water Replenishment Insights, Internal Carbon Pricing – An Implementation Guide for Beverage Companies, and the Water Circularity Good Practices Guide.

Additionally, Daniel has leveraged his 40+ years of professional environmental, health, safety (EHS), and sustainability management experience in industry and consulting to drive BIER’s mission forward. As a senior consultant with the international consultancy Antea Group, Daniel has supported organizations in assessing, prioritizing, and managing their ESG-related business risks and opportunities. His extensive experience translating sustainability aspirations into successful strategies and pragmatic actions has been invaluable to BIER and its members.

After a distinguished career, Daniel is retiring from Antea Group. We wish him all the best in his retirement and thank him for his many years of dedicated service and leadership.

Welcome Erica Pann

We are thrilled to welcome Erica Pann as the new Executive Director of BIER. Erica brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role as a key practitioner and consultant within Antea Group’s Sustainability Practice. She has also been BIER’s Associate Director where she has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability, co-leading BIER’s Water Workstream. Under her leadership, BIER produced the Water Circularity Best Practices Guide,  Water Circularity Playboo, and the True Cost of Water Toolkit 3.0.

With a background in environmental engineering and international studies focused on water resources, Erica has developed strong expertise across a broad range of corporate sustainability disciplines. Her experience includes water stewardship, carbon and climate accounting, corporate reporting and disclosure, sustainability strategy development, as well as climate and water risk analyses. Erica’s work emphasizes integrating sustainability into core business strategies, helping organizations address environmental and climate challenges while enhancing operational resilience and long-term value. Currently pursuing an MBA, she brings a comprehensive understanding of sustainability frameworks and practices, ensuring that sustainability is a key driver of business performance and impact.

Erica’s expertise and passion for environmental sustainability make her the perfect fit to lead BIER into its next chapter. We look forward to her innovative ideas and strategic vision in furthering BIER’s mission which is to bring about positive beverage sector environmental change and inform public policy through engagement with key stakeholders and work focused on business-relevant environmental dimensions including water, energy and climate, beverage container recycling, sustainable agriculture, and eco-system services.
