Constellation Brands Joins Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable

September 23, 2014 | BIER

The Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) welcomes Constellation Brands, a leading beer, wine and spirits company, as its newest member. With over 100 brands in its portfolio, Constellation Brands will bring multi-category perspectives to BIER’s collaborative approach to reduce resource consumption, mitigate impacts and ensure the sustainable future of the beverage sector.

“Constellation Brands is a fantastic addition to BIER,” says Tod Christenson, BIER Director. “As the largest premium wine company in the world, they will bring a wealth of practical experience with corporate social responsibility, which has been a fundamental component of the company since its founding. Their technical expertise, from having the largest solar footprint in the USA wine industry to pursuing sustainable agriculture throughout their global operations, will enrich and bring new perspectives to our various work streams.”

“As an agricultural based company, environmental issues are not only important to us – they are an essential component in our continued growth and success,” says Rob Sands, President and CEO. “Our aim is to look for ways to improve the environment, while also minimizing Constellation’s collective impact. Joining BIER is an indication of the importance we place on collaborating to achieve positive environmental change both up and down our supply chain and across the beverage sector.”

Recently published BIER work includes sector guidance to establish a common methodology for estimation, tracking and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and a quantitative benchmarking study that examines water and energy use drivers and impacts across more than 1,700 beverage production facilities.
